Must have research experience in the following areas engineering mechanics; structural dynamics; finite element analysis FEA; and earthquake engineering. Because this position requires an advancedlevel of engineering and computational design expertise, the employer has determined that a doctorate degree is required. The required doctoral programs prepare students to plan and develop complex structural engineering design projects, including those relevant to this position. In addition to learning engineering fundamentals, students are required to participate in rigorous research projects and spend hours completing lab work. Through these programs they gain hands on experience and expertise working as research assistants. Additionally, they learn how to creatively solve problems, design and implement experiments, and improve processes. In addition, the advancedlevel coursework allows them to examine and understand the theoretical underpinnings of the field.
