Record of publication or strong promise of future scholarly achievement; ability to teach Global Anglophone literatures and cultures broadly;br br PREFERENCEbr Demonstrated experience engaging with diversity through activities such as fostering an inclusive environment inside and outside the classroom and working with students from diverse backgrounds.br br Dr. Lals research and teaching interests include global Anglophone literatures and cultures, postcolonial theory, affect studies, and peace and conflict studies. Lals dissertation, titled At the Limits of Empathy Political Conflict and its Aftermath in Postcolonial Fiction, looks at the workings of empathy in literary portrayals of political conflicts in postcolonial Africa and South Asia. Her scholarly work has appeared in The Journal of Postcolonial Writing 2019 and The Journal of Commonwealth Literature 2019, and she is completing an essay invited for a forthcoming special issue of ARIEL on Postcolonial Affect. Lals work as an instructor of record includes courses on Introduction to Postcolonial African Literature, Introduction to Postcolonial Studies, Empathy in Film and Literature, and Gender and Sexuality in South Asian Literature and Culture. She organized a panel on Empathy and the Postcolonial at the 2020 MLA convention, and in 2019 coorganized an interdisciplinary conference called The Methods Symposium New Approaches in Black, Postcolonial, and Queer Studies. Lal is currently the holder of the MellonSawyer Ph.D. fellowship with the UMass World Studies Interdisciplinary Project.
