Because this position requires an advancedlevel of technical and theoretical engineering expertise, particularly in the area of power systems and control, the employer has determined that a Masters Degree is required. Electrical engineering graduate programs that offer concentrations in power systems and control provide students with the tools, methods and practice necessary to work in the specialized field of power systems. In addition to learning engineering fundamentals, students are required to participate in rigorous research projects and spend hours completing lab work. Through these programs, they learn how to creatively solve problems, design and implement experiments, improve processes. In addition, the advancedlevel coursework allows them to examine and understand the theoretical underpinnings of the field. Because of the high level of this position, this type of educational background is necessary. In addition, this Engineer plays a key role in maintaining the reliability and efficiency of the New England bulk electric power system that encompasses more than 14 million residents in 6 states. Because of the level of responsibility that this position entails, as well as the serious consequences of errors, ISO New England has determined that at least 1 year of handson experience is necessary.
