Project Overview:
We are seeking skilled nurses to join our caregiving team on a contractual basis, with a focus on providing specialized care for a patient with terminal lung cancer. This role involves delivering symptom management, emotional support, and compassionate care to address the patient’s dyspnea and anxiety, optimizing their comfort and quality of life during this challenging time.
Responsibilities:
Symptom Management: Provide comprehensive symptom management to the patient, focusing on alleviating dyspnea and other distressing symptoms associated with terminal lung cancer. Collaborate with the patient’s healthcare team to develop individualized care plans and interventions aimed at optimizing comfort and quality of life.
Anxiety Management: Implement evidence-based interventions to address the patient’s anxiety and promote emotional well-being. Offer supportive counseling, relaxation techniques, and mindfulness-based approaches to help the patient cope with anxiety and uncertainty, fostering a sense of calm and peace.
Emotional Support: Offer empathetic support and companionship to the patient as they navigate the challenges of living with terminal illness. Provide a compassionate presence, active listening, and validation of the patient’s feelings and concerns, fostering a sense of comfort and reassurance.
Family Involvement: Engage with the patient’s family members and caregivers to provide support and guidance as they navigate their loved one’s illness. Offer education, resources, and emotional support to help family members cope with their own distress and provide optimal care and support to the patient.
End-of-Life Planning: Facilitate discussions about end-of-life care preferences and advance care planning with the patient and their family members. Offer guidance and support in decision-making, ensuring that the patient’s wishes are respected and honored throughout their end-of-life journey.
Collaboration: Work closely with the interdisciplinary healthcare team, including oncologists, palliative care specialists, social workers, and spiritual care providers, to ensure coordinated and holistic care. Communicate regularly with team members to share information, discuss treatment goals, and address any emerging needs or concerns, promoting continuity and effectiveness of care delivery.
Requirements:
Certification as a registered nurse with experience in oncology nursing, palliative care, or hospice care.
Proficiency in symptom management for individuals with terminal lung cancer, including knowledge of pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions to alleviate dyspnea and other distressing symptoms.
Experience in providing supportive counseling and anxiety management techniques to individuals facing terminal illness and end-of-life care.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to provide compassionate care and support to patients and their families during times of emotional distress and uncertainty.
