Project Overview:
We are seeking an experienced nurse to join our caregiving team on a contractual basis, with a focus on providing specialized care for our 70-year-old family member living with terminal prostate cancer and bone metastases. This role involves providing palliative care, pain management, and support for addressing sexual health concerns to promote our loved one’s comfort and quality of life as he navigates his end-of-life journey.

Responsibilities:

Palliative Care: Provide compassionate palliative care to our loved one, focusing on alleviating his physical symptoms, managing his pain, and addressing his emotional and psychosocial needs. Offer empathetic support, active listening, and emotional comfort to promote his comfort and dignity throughout his end-of-life journey.
Pain Management: Collaborate with our loved one’s healthcare providers to assess his pain levels and develop a personalized pain management plan to address his pain related to prostate cancer and bone metastases. Utilize pharmacological interventions, such as opioid analgesics and adjuvant medications, as well as non-pharmacological approaches, such as heat therapy and relaxation techniques, to effectively manage his pain and improve his overall quality of life.
Support for Sexual Health Concerns: Address our loved one’s concerns regarding erectile dysfunction and sexual health with sensitivity and empathy. Provide education and guidance on available treatment options for managing erectile dysfunction, such as medication therapy, vacuum erection devices, and counseling services, to help him make informed decisions about his sexual health and well-being.
Family Education and Support: Offer education and emotional support to our loved one’s family members as they navigate the complexities of providing care and support during his end-of-life journey. Provide guidance on how to communicate effectively with healthcare providers, advocate for our loved one’s needs, and create a supportive and nurturing environment conducive to his comfort and well-being.
Collaboration: Collaborate closely with our loved one’s healthcare team, including physicians, oncologists, palliative care specialists, and mental health professionals, to ensure coordinated and holistic care. Communicate regularly with the interdisciplinary team to share information, discuss care goals, and address any emerging needs or concerns, promoting continuity and effectiveness of care delivery.
Progress Monitoring: Regularly assess our loved one’s pain levels, symptom severity, and response to interventions to evaluate the effectiveness of his pain management plan and overall care. Use standardized assessment tools, pain scales, and patient feedback to monitor changes in his condition, optimize his care plan, and enhance his comfort and quality of life.
Requirements:

Certification as a registered nurse with experience in palliative care, oncology nursing, or end-of-life care.
Proficiency in pain management for individuals with terminal cancer, including knowledge of pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions for managing cancer-related pain.
Experience in addressing sexual health concerns and providing support for individuals facing erectile dysfunction or other sexual dysfunction issues.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to provide compassionate care and support to individuals facing end-of-life issues and their families.
