Our primary focus is to ensure her comfort, development, and happiness, supporting her in overcoming the challenges associated with severe mobility and speech difficulties.
Project Overview:
We are seeking experienced pediatric nurses who are compassionate and skilled in the care of children with special needs to provide comprehensive support for our daughter with cerebral palsy. This project entails a 6-month contract, with the potential for extension based on her evolving needs and developmental progress.
Responsibilities:
Provide continuous assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs), including feeding, dressing, bathing, grooming, and toileting, to support the child’s comfort, independence, and dignity.
Implement and facilitate regular physical and occupational therapy sessions as prescribed by her healthcare providers, focusing on improving mobility, strength, and functional abilities.
Conduct speech therapy exercises to enhance communication skills, utilizing augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) devices as needed.
Coordinate with school and therapy services to support the child’s educational and developmental needs, ensuring a cohesive and supportive approach to her care and learning.
Collaborate closely with the child’s medical team, including pediatricians, neurologists, physical therapists, occupational therapists, and speech-language pathologists, to optimize her care plan and address emerging needs and challenges.
Requirements:
Certification as a registered nurse with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in pediatric nursing, particularly in the care of children with cerebral palsy or other neurodevelopmental conditions.
Proficiency in assisting with activities of daily living (ADLs) for children with severe mobility and speech difficulties, demonstrating patience, empathy, and adaptability in addressing their unique needs.
Strong understanding of physical, occupational, and speech therapy techniques, including experience in implementing therapy exercises and supporting the use of AAC devices.
Ability to coordinate with educational and therapy services to support the child’s developmental and educational goals, fostering a collaborative and integrated approach to her care.
Excellent communication skills and a compassionate demeanor, fostering trust and rapport with the child and her family, and collaborating effectively with interdisciplinary healthcare and educational teams.
Patient Case:
Pediatric Cerebral Palsy
Patient: 8-year-old female
Condition: The patient is living with cerebral palsy, characterized by severe mobility and speech difficulties. She requires comprehensive care to support her daily functioning, developmental progress, and overall well-being.
Care Plan:
Continuous Assistance with ADLs: Provide compassionate and continuous assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs), including feeding, dressing, bathing, grooming, and toileting, to support the child’s comfort, independence, and dignity, ensuring she feels secure and well-cared for.
