We are a caring family dedicated to providing the best possible care for our beloved father, a 60-year-old man living with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). His condition has led to frequent exacerbations, requiring regular medication adjustments, oxygen therapy, and support for managing symptoms to prevent hospital admissions. We are seeking compassionate nursing support to assist our father in managing his COPD effectively and improving his quality of life.

Project Overview:
We are seeking an experienced nurse to join our caregiving team on a contractual basis, with a focus on providing specialized care for our father living with COPD. This role involves medication adjustments, oxygen therapy management, and offering support to help him manage symptoms and prevent hospital admissions related to COPD exacerbations.

Responsibilities:

Medication Adjustments: Assist in managing medications prescribed for COPD, including bronchodilators, corticosteroids, and antibiotics, ensuring adherence to treatment plans, monitoring for potential side effects, and adjusting dosages as needed under the guidance of healthcare providers. Educate the patient and family members on proper medication administration techniques and potential interactions.
Oxygen Therapy Management: Monitor oxygen therapy use, including oxygen saturation levels, flow rates, and equipment maintenance, to ensure effective oxygen delivery and alleviate symptoms associated with COPD exacerbations. Educate the patient and family members on proper oxygen therapy techniques and safety precautions.
Symptom Management: Provide support and guidance to help the patient manage symptoms associated with COPD exacerbations, such as shortness of breath, coughing, wheezing, and chest tightness. Offer techniques for breathing exercises, airway clearance, and energy conservation to improve symptom control and enhance quality of life.
Prevention of Hospital Admissions: Develop strategies to prevent hospital admissions related to COPD exacerbations, including early recognition of symptoms, prompt intervention, and coordination of care with healthcare providers. Monitor the patient’s condition closely and communicate any changes or concerns to healthcare providers for timely intervention.
Family Education: Provide education and guidance to family members on understanding COPD, managing medications, oxygen therapy, and supporting our father’s self-care and symptom management at home. Offer resources and referrals to support groups or community services as needed to enhance family coping and well-being.
Collaboration: Collaborate closely with healthcare providers, including pulmonologists, respiratory therapists, and home healthcare teams, to ensure coordinated care and optimize treatment strategies for managing COPD exacerbations. Communicate regularly with family members to provide updates on our father’s condition, address concerns, and adjust care plans as needed.
Requirements:

Certification as a registered nurse with experience in respiratory nursing, pulmonary rehabilitation, or home healthcare.
Proficiency in managing medications and oxygen therapy for individuals with COPD, including knowledge of bronchodilators, corticosteroids, antibiotics, and oxygen delivery devices.
