Project Overview:
We are seeking experienced nurses who are compassionate and knowledgeable about HIV/AIDS care to provide comprehensive support for our family member in late-stage HIV/AIDS. This project encompasses a 6-month contract, with the potential for extension based on her evolving health needs and the management of her condition.
Responsibilities:
Provide compassionate and holistic care tailored to the unique needs of a patient with late-stage HIV/AIDS and multiple opportunistic infections.
Support adherence to antiretroviral therapy (ART) regimens, including medication administration, monitoring for side effects, and addressing barriers to adherence.
Implement infection control measures to prevent the spread of opportunistic infections, including hand hygiene, isolation precautions, and environmental cleaning.
Provide nutritional support, including meal planning, dietary counseling, and monitoring of nutritional status, to optimize immune function and overall health.
Offer psychosocial support, including counseling, emotional support, and referral to support services, to address the emotional and psychological challenges of living with advanced HIV/AIDS.
Collaborate closely with the patient’s medical team, including infectious disease specialists, HIV/AIDS specialists, pharmacists, and social workers, to coordinate care, optimize treatment strategies, and address emerging needs and challenges.
Requirements:
Certification as a registered nurse with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in HIV/AIDS care or infectious disease nursing.
Proficiency in antiretroviral therapy management, including knowledge of ART regimens, medication administration, and adherence support strategies.
Strong understanding of infection control principles and practices, including standard precautions, isolation precautions, and environmental cleaning procedures.
Ability to provide comprehensive nutritional support, including assessing nutritional needs, developing individualized meal plans, and monitoring nutritional status, to optimize the patient’s health and well-being.
Excellent communication skills and a compassionate demeanor, fostering trust and rapport with the patient and her family members, and collaborating effectively with interdisciplinary healthcare teams.
Patient Case:
Late-Stage HIV/AIDS
Patient: 40-year-old female
Condition: The patient is grappling with late-stage HIV/AIDS, characterized by advanced immunosuppression and multiple opportunistic infections, including pneumonia, tuberculosis, and cytomegalovirus (CMV) retinitis. She requires comprehensive care to manage her condition effectively, prevent complications, and optimize her quality of life.
Care Plan:
Antiretroviral Therapy Adherence: Support adherence to antiretroviral therapy (ART) regimens, including medication administration, monitoring for side effects, and addressing barriers to adherence, to suppress viral replication, preserve immune function, and reduce the risk of opportunistic infections.
Infection Control: Implement infection control measures to prevent the spread of opportunistic infections, including hand hygiene, isolation precautions, and environmental cleaning, to protect the patient and others from infectious diseases.
Nutritional Support: Provide comprehensive nutritional support, including assessing nutritional needs, developing individualized meal plans, and monitoring nutritional status, to optimize immune function, maintain weight, and enhance overall health and well-being.
Psychosocial Support: Offer psychosocial support, including counseling, emotional support, and referral to support services, to address the emotional and psychological challenges of living with advanced HIV/AIDS, promoting coping strategies, resilience, and quality of life.
Collaboration with Medical Team: Work closely with the patient’s interdisciplinary medical team, including infectious disease specialists, HIV/AIDS specialists, pharmacists, social workers, and mental health professionals, to coordinate care, optimize treatment strategies, and address emerging needs and challenges, ensuring comprehensive and integrated care for the patient.
