Job Duties: Livestock are in feedlot during the months from November to end of May then they are turned out to pasture for the summer months. Seasonal labor is only required during the months the livestock are in the feedlot. The Livestock worker performs any combination of the following tasks in a feedlot to feed, water, load, weigh, mark, and segregate livestock: Feeds grains, hay, and prepared feed and waters livestock according to winter schedule. Opens gates and moves cattle into corrals. Operates Skid steer, tractor with mixer, hay loader and drive feed truck. Maintains farm equipment. Segregates animals according to weight, age, color, and physical condition. Marks livestock to identify ownership and grade, using brands or tags. Cleans ramps, scales, trucks, and pens, using hose, fork, shovel, and rake. Scatters new bedding material, such as sawdust and straw, in pens and trucks. May make routine repairs and perform general cleaning and maintenance duties in feedlot. Worker may be asked to work Sundays but is not required. Worker will be working the majority of their time around cattle, sometimes in close quarters working in dusty dirty pens in manure, and often working in freezing winter conditions. Worker will be required to work closely with other workers and must be able to listen and follow their supervisors’ directions. Worker must be able to lift and carry up to 100 lbs.
